The Erntedankfest (Harvest Festival) is a traditional holiday held at the time of the main harvest to celebrate the importance of the peasantry. In 1933, Adolf Hitler decreed that the Erntedankfest should be celebrated on the first Sunday of October. It later became a public holiday. The main event took place on the Bückeberg hill, where millions of people attended the visit of the Führer and his speech.
